New York City woke up to chaos today. A powerful explosion tore through a high-rise apartment building, triggering a massive fire that sent thick black smoke billowing across the skyline — and left residents fighting to escape.
The incident happened inside a densely populated public housing tower in the Bronx area. Early reports suggest a gas-related explosion, followed almost instantly by a fast-spreading fire that climbed floor by floor.
Witnesses say the blast was sudden and violent. Flames were first seen on mid-level floors before racing upward, eventually reaching some of the highest levels of the building. From the street, smoke was so thick it blocked out the upper floors entirely.
