Index — The Black Album 1967 (USA, Garage, Psychedelic Rock)

The band was formed in 1966 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. At the time, the band was called "Chicken Every Sunday" and performed mostly songs by Chuck Berry and The Animals. During one rehearsal, they decided to change their name and, opening a random book, stumbled upon INDEX. The band's debut album, recorded in December 1967, sometimes referred to as "The Black Album," sounds dirty and raw. Unsurprisingly, it was recorded live by three American teenagers, using a single microphone placed in the middle of a large hall. Hence the distinctive sound. Most of the material on the album was written by the band members, but there are also a few covers. Like the famous Beatles album, both Index albums were released untitled and were popularly identified by their color. And not by the colors of the covers (they were black), but by the colors of the "apples" of the vinyl records. The first is the "Black Album," and the second is the "Red Album."
