Chris Torrens, Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China and Managing Director, Greater China, at APCO, spoke to CGTN Europe about UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to China.Torrens described the atmosphere at the conference as optimistic and constructive, noting a pragmatic UK approach to engagement with China. He said this has created a sense of tangible progress and renewed opportunities for businesses, particularly in the services sector, where the UK is a global leader.He added that challenges such as market access are being actively discussed through dialogue between businesses and government leaders. According to Torrens, trust between the two countries is gradually strengthening, alongside a shared commitment to deepen trade ties. He also highlighted healthcare, advanced manufacturing, creative industries, and sport as key areas of potential China-UK cooperation.
