January Tyme — First Time From Memphis 1969 (USA, Psychedelic Rock)
This New York band was formed in 1968. A year later, they recorded their only album for the Enterprise label. Due to poor sales, the band broke up in mid-1970. The subsequent fate of the members is unknown. Psychedelia in the vein of Jefferson Airplane. To me, their lone LP comes across like a second rate Jefferson Airplane, especially on the more psych rock bits. When they get a bit more bluesy or soulful, they sound like a second rate Big Brother & The Holding Co. Not an insult as this is actually quite good. So if you've already absorbed the work of the aforementioned bands, this'll be a nice find for you.geldofpunk Jun 27 2025
