Ashes — Ashes Featuring Pat Taylor 1970 (USA, Psychedelic, Folk Rock)

The band formed in 1965 in the small Californian town of Santa Monica under its original name, "Young Swingers." Notably, the original lineup included drummer Spencer Dryden, nephew of the legendary Charlie Chaplin, who had previously played jazz with the famous Charles Lloyd. The Young Swingers began their career by actively performing in numerous cafes and clubs along the Gulf Coast. It didn't take them long to storm record labels, and the quartet quickly recorded two singles—"Love Her Every Day/Or Else You'll Cry" and "Let's Take Our Love/Winds Up High"—which went largely unnoticed. However, that summer, the band secured a permanent gig at the local club, "Waleback," where they performed to great acclaim until June 1966. But two months later, in October, Spencer Dryden, who by then was considered one of the city's best drummers, moved to Jefferson Airplane on the recommendation of the even more famous drummer Earl Palmer. Guitarist Jim Cherniss also left the band at the same time. John Voight became the new drummer, and with his arrival, the name changed to Ashes. With a new lineup, the quartet signed a contract with the small label Vault Records, which released two more of their singles, "Is There Anything I Can Do/Every Little Prayer" (1966) and "Dark On You Now/Roses Gone" (1967), neither of which achieved success. Just a couple of months after the release of the latter, the band changed its name yet again to the intriguing "Peanut Butter Conspiracy"... However, the story of Ashes didn't end there. In 1968, while working on their next album, "Peanut Butter Conspiracy," the musicians, with the addition of singer Pat Taylor, reformed their old group. Under producer Jackie Mills, they recorded the album "Ashes Featuring Pat Taylor" that same year, offering melodic and straightforward pop-psychedelic with a touch of folk rock. 01.
