Part 2 - While researching a previous video on several future / predictive easter eggs to the 1990 movie version of comic book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles showing up in the 1989 Konami arcade game Crime Fighters I kept finding references to recent movie heroes, Marvel's Wolverine, Deadpool & Cable.
Arcade games appear in the movie in Shredder's lair / the foot clan training / recruiting area at around 31 minutes into the movie. One of the game cabinets shown but not so easy to identify is the beat 'em up side scroller Crime Fighters, released the previous year.
I looked at the gameplay of Crime Fighters and found some very interesting predictive hints to what would wind up in the 1990 TMNT film:
- Many of the bosses may have been inspired by American horror films. The final opponent of the level 2 train stage wears a hockey mask similar to Jason Voorhees of the Friday The 13th films. The boss of the stage 3 warehouse wields a chainsaw and the boss of the stage 4 rooftop level appears closely modeled on A Nightmare On Elm Street's Freddy Krueger (complete with metal claws).
- Actor Corey Feldman voices purple masked brainiac hero Donatello in TMNT (1990). He previously squared off with Jason in 1984's Friday The 13th The Final Chapter.
- Elias Koteas plays New York City vigilante Casey Jones who also wears a hockey mask.
- I thought Pat Fraley's voice for used for Casey Jones in the TMNT animated series ('87-'96) inspired by western / action actor Clint Eastwood
- Likewise when Marvel's X-Men became an animated TV series in the early '90's, I thought the voice for Wolverine / Logan similar to some of Eastwood's
characters.
- One of Wolverine's special abilities is retractable adamantium claws on each hand. Freddy Krueger also has gloves with metallic claws.
- The Dead Pool was also the title to an (unrelated to Marvel) Eastwood police film, Dirty Harry movie in 1988.
- Comedian Jim Carrey has a part in The Dead Pool and can be linked to the ninja turtles in some interesting ways:
- Rapper Vanilla Ice: Carrey parodied Ice's performances in a 1993 segment on FOX TV's In Living Color.
- Vanilla Ice had a part in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze In 1991.
- Archie published comic book series based on TMNT & SEGA video game Sonic The Hedgehog in 1990's. Jim Carrey would star as villain Dr. Robotonik in several Sonic movies nearly 30 years later.
- Tokka (a snapping turtle) and Rahzar (a wolf) were the mutant henchmen of 1991's TMNT II. I thought the description of Rahzar especially interesting in reference to Wolverine.
- Sam Rockwell had a part as a Foot Clan ninja member in TMNT ('90) and may be an anchor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in that he played Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2 (2010) & All Hail The King (2014).
