Mahoba (Uttar Pradesh): A disturbing allegation regarding the mid-day meal scheme has surfaced from Dhikwaha village in Mahoba district, raising serious concerns about the functioning of the local education administration.
A viral video circulating on social media purportedly shows milk being heavily diluted before distribution to students at a government primary school in the village. In the footage, a cook identified as Chhabirani is seen pouring only two packets of milk into a bucket filled with water. The mixture turns lightly white and is then allegedly served to children.
The video also appears to show the act taking place in the presence of the school’s principal, Monica Soni. In a separate clip, the principal is allegedly seen sleeping in the classroom while students are present.
According to villagers, the incident reflects not just negligence but potential misuse of funds allocated under the government’s mid-day meal scheme. Locals have alleged irregularities in both food quality and academic supervision at the school, claiming that standards are being compromised at the expense of children’s health and education.
The mid-day meal programme is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at improving nutritional levels among school-going children and encouraging enrolment and attendance in government schools.
Taking cognizance of the viral videos, Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Rahul Mishra has ordered an inquiry into the matter. He stated that strict action will be taken if the allegations are found to be true following verification of the footage.
Authorities have yet to officially confirm the authenticity of the videos. The investigation is currently underway.
