The Outsiders — Outsiders 1967 (Netherlands, Rhythm & Blues, Garage Rock)
The band's founders and composers, Ronnie Splinter and Wally Tax, started out in 1960 in the pop-beat group "Jimmy Revon & Outsiders." When Jimmy Revon (aka Leendert Groenhof) disbanded the group in late 1964, Splinter and Tax decided to continue, but, unlike the beat music that was flooding Holland, to play their own music—garage rock. The new group was simply named "Outsiders." (There were about twenty bands with that name, the most famous, perhaps, being the American pop-beat bands of the 1960s and the London punks of the early 1970s.) In November 1965, they were already working as the opening band for the Rolling Stones' second Dutch show. Within a year and a half, they earned a strong reputation as a "wild" live act, often being rejected for inclusion in "package" concerts. They released only three full-length albums. Their self-titled debut sold quite well, and the single "Summer Is Here" reached the Dutch Top Ten.
