Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh): A 32-year-old software engineer was killed after a massive container rack from a moving lorry crashed onto his car in Iruvaram area of Chittoor town on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as D. Anudeepak, a resident of Ramapuram village in Gudipala mandal of Chittoor district. He was travelling in his car when the accident occurred.
According to Chittoor Traffic Police Station inspector G Nithya Babu, the container lorry driver swerved abruptly while attempting to avoid a biker approaching from the Yadamarri side. In the process, the lorry mounted the road divider, causing the container rack to dislodge and topple onto a car coming from the opposite direction.
The heavy structure crushed the vehicle, killing Anudeepak on the spot. Police said that although there were no major external injuries, severe internal damage to vital organs, including the lungs and heart, led to his instantaneous death. He was employed as a software engineer at an IT firm in Bengaluru.
Authorities dismissed rumours circulating on social media that claimed six fatalities, clarifying that only one person died in the crash.
Anudeepak’s body has been shifted to Chittoor Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The lorry driver has been taken into custody and the vehicle seized. The biker involved sustained minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at the government hospital.
Police have registered a case against both the lorry driver and the biker. Further investigation is underway.
