In a shocking case from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the naked and decomposed body of a 24-year-old MBA student was found in her classmate’s rented house in the Dwarkapuri area on Friday, February 13, 2026. Rope marks around her neck indicate she was strangled.
The victim was a first-year MBA student at an institute on Sanwer Road. Her body had decomposed to such an extent that her father reportedly identified her only by her socks. Residents of Uncle Gali alerted police after a foul smell began emanating from the locked room. Police broke open the door and recovered the body.
According to police, the student was last seen on February 10. Earlier that day, she had gone with her father to the Collectorate to get her birth certificate corrected. Later in the evening, she informed her family that she was attending a birthday party with her classmate and alleged boyfriend, Piyush Dhanotia, and would return by 11 pm. She did not return home.
That same night, around 11 objectionable videos were allegedly posted from her phone to her college WhatsApp group and uploaded on her WhatsApp status. In the clips, her face was visible while the man’s face was covered with emojis. College authorities removed the video and informed her father on Wednesday, also stating that both her phone and Dhanotia’s phone were switched off.
A missing person’s complaint was registered late Wednesday night at the Pandharinath Police Station. The family alleged there was little urgency in tracing her despite repeated pleas.
Police suspect she was strangled on the night of February 10 following an altercation. Preliminary medical examination suggests death occurred around three days before the body was found. The final post-mortem report is awaited.
Dhanotia, originally from Mandsaur, allegedly fled Indore by train on February 10. He was arrested from the Andheri area of Mumbai on Sunday, February 15. On February 16, a court sent him to three-day police remand for further interrogation and reconstruction of the crime scene.
The victim’s father alleged that his daughter was mentally tortured and blackmailed by Dhanotia, who allegedly demanded money for college fees and threatened to leak private videos. Police said the murder may have stemmed from a rift in their romantic relationship.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishna Lalchandani stated that prima facie evidence points to strangulation with a rope, and further details will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
