Deoria (Salempur): An attempt to rob a jeweller at gunpoint in broad daylight created panic in the busy Kishoreganj market area under Kotwali police station limits on Thursday.
According to police, Dhruv Kumar Verma, a resident of Ward No. 10, Kishoreganj, runs a jewellery shop on Sant Tulsi Marg. At around 11:05 am, an unidentified person entered the shop with his face covered with a cloth. The accused allegedly pointed a firearm at Verma and attempted to loot the shop.
Acting swiftly, the jeweller locked himself inside the strong room, forcing the miscreant to flee the spot empty-handed. The incident triggered fear among nearby traders and locals.
Verma has demanded registration of an FIR against the unknown accused. Kotwali in-charge Inspector Mahendra Kumar Chaturvedi reached the spot and carried out an inspection. Police said further investigation is underway.
