On Saturday, a boat carrying around 50 migrants sank off the island of Crete amid strong winds and waves reaching 2.5 meters. At least five people died, while 25 remain missing. Twenty survivors were rescued by a merchant ship that responded to the emergency call. The Greek Coast Guard, supported by the EU’s Frontex agency, continues search and rescue operations in the area. During the mission, authorities detected another vessel carrying about 40 migrants, prompting a second rescue effort.
