Public roads built on government-owned land, especially main roads, should not be sold or transferred to private parties as they are national strategic assets and public property, the Dewan Rakyat heard on Wednesday (Feb 25).
Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said private involvement may be allowed only for management or maintenance through concession agreements, without affecting government ownership or public access.
Any closure, disposal, or change in road status must undergo a strict legal and approval process involving relevant authorities to ensure transparency and protect public interests.
