The Opposition has criticised the Bill limiting the Prime Minister’s term as potentially unconstitutional, citing conflicts with Articles 40, 43(2A), and 159(5) of the Federal Constitution, which involve the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s prerogative in appointing the Prime Minister.
Opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan expressed doubt that the Bills could pass in the Dewan Rakyat, which requires a two-thirds majority (148 MPs) for constitutional amendments, noting that even some government MPs have voiced objections.
