Indonesia displays Muhammad-linked artifacts during Ramadan
An exhibition of artifacts attributed to the Prophet Muhammad is drawing crowds of worshippers and curious visitors in the outskirts of Jakarta throughout the holy month of Ramadan. The month-long event in Cibinong, about 45 kilometers (28 miles) south of the capital, offers a rare glimpse of items believed to be linked to Islam's founder in a nation where about 87 percent of its 280 million people are Muslim. The collection is curated by Professor Abdul Manan Bin Embong, an Islamic historian from the University of Malaya who has spent decades gathering relics related to the Prophet. He has amassed more than 3,700 items and traveled the world to exhibit the artifacts as part of an effort to educate the public about Islamic heritage. Organizers say they hope the exhibition will help bridge the distance between modern-day Indonesian Muslims and the early history of their faith.
