Chaos in JD(U) Office! Workers Smash Furniture as Nitish Kumar Quits Bihar CM Post for Rajya Sabha

Tensions flared at the Janata Dal (United) office on Thursday (5 Feb 2026) after party workers vandalised the premises to protest against Nitish Kumar stepping down as Chief Minister of Bihar.

Angry supporters assembled outside the party office, raising slogans and damaging property. Furniture was smashed and utensils were broken, leaving the office in disarray. A video showing broken plates and toppled furniture from the premises has since gone viral on social media.

The protest erupted just before Kumar, the JD(U) supremo, was scheduled to file his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections. The development comes barely four months after he began his record 10th term as Bihar’s Chief Minister last November.

Kumar filed his nomination on Thursday alongside Nitin Nabin, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Confirming his move to the Upper House, the JD(U) leader said he would continue supporting the new government in Bihar. In a post on X, Kumar said he intends to become a member of the Rajya Sabha and assured that his commitment to working for a “developed Bihar” will remain unchanged.

While the party has not officially named his successor, political circles believe the move could pave the way for a BJP leader to head the NDA government in the state.
