Mo Farah is targeting further glory in the European Championships in Barcelona after his remarkable gold in the 10,000 metres.

Farah's winning time of 28 minutes 24.99 seconds was almost a minute slower than his fastest time this year, but the Somalia-born 27-year-old's tactics proved spot on.

He finally hit the front in a slow race with five laps to go, but then beckoned Spain's Ayad Lamdassem through to take up the pace with just over three laps remaining.

A lap later, Farah then remarkably turned to urge on compatriot Chris Thompson, who was engaged in a battle for silver with Italy's Meucci some 30m behind.

And the gambit paid massive dividends as Farah stormed clear with 350m to go and Thompson produced a rousing finish to overhaul Lamdassem and just hold off Meucci on the line, both athletes given the same time of 28:27.33.

Both runners now prepare to race again in the 5000m, the heats of which begin on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Britain could claim further medals on Wednesday with the final of the men's 100m set to feature Dwain Chambers and possibly Mark Lewis-Francis and James Dasaolu.
