Imagine an organization that says to the worlds illiterate children, “You’ve Just Won Your Own Kindle!” Founders David Risher and McElwee have a plan to uplift the world by teaching children how to read using the technology of e-readers, which allow school kids to have an entire library in the palm of their own hands. Worldreader.org is testing their program with children in Accra, Ghana and Barcelona, Spain. What’s more, not only are children learning how to read but with the snazzy “text-to-speech” function, the parents of the kids are getting in on the act too, learning to read by listening.
