One man is preparing for one chilling experience. Dutchman Wim Hof will be attempting to stay in freezing water for nearly two hours. It's not the first time he's on the way to breaking a Guinness World Record.

Multiple Guinness World Record holder Wim Hof took a dip in ice water on Wednesday. It was in preparation of an attempt to break his own record for staying the longest in ice water this New Year's Eve.

Wearing only swimming trunks, Hof jumped into a tank for a five minute performance in front of Hong Kong residents.

The Dutchman broke the world record last January by taking an "ice bath" for 1 hour 44 minutes. This year he wants to make it a cool 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Hof says the performance requires long-term preparation and strong concentration.

[Wim Hof, Guinness Record Holder]:
"When I am performing ice immersion, actually I do not think very much. It is all before, before coming to Hong Kong do this challenge, I like a psychic preparation. And it is not of one day, it's of many days."

He also says he needs control of his mind and body to take the challenge.

[Wim Hof, Guinness Record Holder]:
"In the brains, you have the thermostat like a thermostat. It's called the hypothalamus. And I will have, need control inside my head, and then towards the body. And then I am able to stay one hour fifty minutes in the ice."

Hof's nine Guinness World Records include swimming under ice for 57.5 minutes at the North Pole and running bare-foot for 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
