The Government is to provide more than £100 million of extra money to deal with potholes on roads.
The funding is to go to local councils in England, in addition to the £831 million already provided to councils for road maintenance this year and the £3 billion the Government has committed over the next four years.
The Department for Transport said that the severe weather at the end of last year had left many local roads in a poor condition.
Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said: "I am determined to see the winter damage to our roads fixed as quickly as possible and we will be working with councils to make sure that happens."
The extra funding has been made possible because of savings the DfT made earlier in the financial year.
