Mayawati and Suresh Kalmadi are among 750 MPs who have bought confiscated arms, according to an RTI reply. In July 2002, the Finance Ministry said that confiscated weapons can be sold to sitting MPs on a first-come-first-serve basis if they confirm in writing that they do not own or possess any weapon already.
