Screen legend Doris Day has made music history, breaking the record for the oldest artist to place in the top ten in the UK charts with new music.
The 87 year old's album "My Heart" marks her first foray into the British album charts, featuring nine new recordings, including some by her late son, Terry Melcher, who died of melanoma in 2004.
Famous for her "good girl" image in the 50's and 60's, the Hollywood icon recorded the tracks in the 1980's - but it wasn't until record label Sony Music UK got hold of the album that it found its release.
Four of the songs were co-written by Beach Boys member and Melcher's best friend Bruce Johnston including the title track "My Heart".
Johnston said he believed it was being controlled by the Hollywood "machine", that led Day end her musical career in the first place.
SOUNDBITE Bruce Johnston, songwriter, saying (English):
"I don't think she had control of the songs. I mean she was a movie star now that still recorded (music). I just think the people around her turned her into a product. I think she just gracefully moved on."
He added this latest album gave her a chance to take control.
SOUNDBITE Bruce Johnston, songwriter, saying (English):
"I'm sure she had a lot of wonderful thoughts in her blender about putting this album together and they've just been in perfect storage for so long and she just had one more chance to do something that her fans would love but she got to do it her way. There was nobody saying you have to do it this way or that way. She picked all the songs."
Day now lives out of the limelight in Carmel, California and is an avid animal rights campaigner.
"My Heart" has only been released in Britain and Germany but Sony is currently looking for a distributor in the United States.
