A Reuters source said 20 had died and at least 80 injured since Sunday's fighting.
Body bags lined the corridor as doctors rush to treat the injured.
The National Transitional Council forces have struggled to take Sirte and a few other leftover bastions of Muammar Gaddafi loyalists.
Many civilians in Sirte are said to be fighting alongside Gaddafi's army as they believe outsiders will commit atrocities once they capture the city of 75,000 people.
Gaddafi, who has ruled for 42 years, is still in hiding.
