While Republican presidential candidates may dominate headlines in Iowa with their caucus quest, U.S. President Barack Obama addressed democrats via satellite, in the state that launched his Presidential campaign.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING:
"Change is never easy. The problems that we have been dealing with over the past three years did not happen overnight, and we are not going to fix them over night. But we can make progress as long as we can sustain it, and that is what this is going to be all about. So, the only way we are going to be able to do that is if all of you maintain the same determination, the same energy the same drive, rattle same hopefulness, the same optimism about this wonderful country of ours as was on display four years ago."
Obama told one voter that he was upbeat about the election
(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING:
"In some ways I am more optimistic now than when I first ran because I have seen change happen."
The president will travel to Iowa to campaign in person, too, though his campaign declined to say when.
He has a reason to come often: among five nationwide state-by-state scenarios that Obama's campaign manager has designed for victory in 2012, three of them include winning Iowa.
