General Stanley McChrystal, commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, has been sacked by US President Barack Obama over comments he and his aides made in an article printed in Rolling Stone magazine. In the interview, McChrystal's aides mocked vice-president Joe Biden, called the president's national security adviser "a clown" and compared Richard Holbrooke to a "wounded animal." Head of the US Central Command General David Petraeus has been chosen to replace McChrystal.
