Israel and Syria continue to monitor both sides of the border. While the region's leaders stress they have no intention of waging a war, there is a real fear that conflict could break out, because of a misunderstanding . On Tuesday, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Cheif of General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi visited the Northern Command and received an update on the situation. While the IDF maintains a high state of alert in preparation for a possible move by Syria, the latter continues to stockpile weapons and Syrian President Bashar Assad continues to stress that he does not intend to launch a war against Israel.08/14/07
