A U.S. embassy employee has been released, after being held for questioning in Pakistan on Tuesday.
The American was detained before attempting to board a plane from the northwestern city of Peshawar to the capital Islamabad.
He was held after airport security allegedly discovered bullets in his luggage.
The U.S. citizen is an embassy employee based in Islamabad, but was temporarily assigned to the Peshawar consulate.
(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) POLICE OFFICIAL, ZULFIQAR KHAN, SAYING:
"An American man came to Peshawar airport to fly to Islamabad. Airport Security Force personnel discovered the magazine and a few bullets in his luggage. The ASF handed them over to police. Further investigations into the man's diplomatic status are continuing."
Police officers had earlier said they would hold the man until his identity had been verified by the foreign office in the capital.
U.S. embassy staff said they were looking into the incident.
