A cargo vessel ran aground in rough seas after hitting rocks at Llanddulas, near Colwyn Bay, on the North Welsh coast of the United Kingdom, on Tuesday (April 3).
All seven of the Polish crew were taken uninjured from the 82-metre long ship by two rescue helicopters, reported the Marine and Coastguard Agency (MRA) website. It also said that there was a five-metre swell and a strong gale blowing at the time.
The vessel, registered in Antigua and Barbuda, was transporting stone but was also carrying 40,000 litres of fuel, sparking concerns that it could begin to leak.
Salvage and counter pollution experts were due at the site on Wednesday morning (April 4) to assess the damage and an operation to refloat the ship set to begin.
The MRA also said the cargo ship was resting against concrete blocks on the beach, near a main highway, which had been closed to allow rescue teams to reach the crew.
