The man tasked with overseeing Mali's return to democratic rule on Monday met with the army captain who seized power more than two weeks ago.
Parliament speaker Dioncounda Traore held talks with Captain Amadou Sanogo in Bamako.
A deal agreed Friday will see Sanogo stand down and Traore take over as interim president.
Their meeting follows the resignation of Amadou Toumani Toure.
