Ever since he won the Bolivian presidency in 2005, Evo Morales has been a thorn in America's side. He once said, "The worst enemy of humanity is U.S. capitalism." Originally a coca farmer himself, he has tried to block U.S. intervention in eradicating coca farming in his country. In 2006, he partially nationalized Bolivia's oil and gas industry. Last month both countries recalled their ambassadors and tensions remain high between La Paz and Washington.
