Floods caused by torrential rains across southwest and eastern China have killed dozens and forced thousands to evacuate, state media said on Tuesday (July 17).

Rainstorms over the past week in China's Guizhou province have affected about 1.1 million residents across 44 counties, killing 11 and leaving three missing, state television CCTV said.

More than 3,000 residents in the province's township of Kaikou and 10,000 residents in the nearby Pingtang county, where one-third of the land area was submerged, were relocated to safety, CCTV said.

Power cuts and landslides from the storms have caused damage to roads and thousands of homes, state media reported.

Weather reports in the province's city of Yichun predict heavy thunderstorms over the next three days, state television said.
