STORY: Designer Karl Lagerfeld said he won't be one of the expected billions of people around the world tuning into the Olympic Games when the sporting extravaganza kicks off on Friday (July 27).
The German tastemaker launched a pop-up shop for three of his eponymous labels "Karl", "Karl Lagerfeld Paris", and "Team Karl", the latter of which is exclusive to Selfridges department store in London, where the launch was held on Tuesday (July 24).
Despite the Games-inspired collection, Lagerfeld said he won't be watching the Games.
"Not too much. I like the idea, I like the people, but the performances, they are something of a little unhuman now. I like the image and the idea better than to watch it," he told Reuters Television.
Amongst some of the light touches of the "Team Karl" range include the designer standing in the trademark discus pose -- an arm swung back holding the disc, bending over, about to throw the disc into the air.
Another highlight includes gold, silver and bronze logos on t-shirts with Lagerfeld's name on them. The Olympic medal colours also feature on sunglasses and so-called "Peter Pan" collars.
The "Karl" brand features more casual lines that is accessible to more people while the "Karl Lagerfeld Paris" menswear brand is more exclusive and also launched exclusively at Selfridges.
