Pro-democracy activists in Syria say security forces have taken control of the coastal city of Baniyas.
It comes just days after troops backed by tanks carried out a long bloody crackdown on protesters in the southern city of Deraa.
But as Catherine Turner reports, the crackdown has not stopped the protests.
