A sneaky few waves before work has turned into the session of a lifetime for Gold Coast lifeguard Scott Wildin. Scott's early morning, endless Kirra barrel in January has won him the 2011 VB Slab of the Year award.
VB and Surfing Australia created the VB Slab of the Year competition for Australia's 2.5 million surfers and its rare breed of hardcore watermen. It was an online competition exclusive to www.surfingaustralia.com/vb/ which offered the chance for Australian surfers to win a weekly prize for the best tube or gnarliest wave surfed in Australian waters.
For his efforts, Scott has won a once in a lifetime, all expenses paid surf trip for himself and good mate John Cummings to the wave-rich Fiji island of Tavarua with Australian big wave legend Ross Clarke-Jones. Their trip will feature in Surfing World Magazine and on Television 4 via Surfing Australia TV.
