China is getting ready to launch an unmanned laboratory into space on Thursday, marking the first ambitious step to building the country's very own space station. The experimental module 'Tiangong 1', also known as 'Heavenly palace', will be launched from the Gobi desert in China's northwest. Officials have promised to complete the construction of the station by the end of the decade. The editor of 'News of the cosmonautics magazine' Igor Lisov believes China's exploration of space is fueled by its desire to catch up with other countries.
