A policy that banned open homosexuality among service members in the U.S. military has been repealed. The practice, known as 'don't ask don't tell', was introduced in 1993 during the Clinton administration. Under the rule, gay people were allowed to serve in the armed forces as long as they kept their sexual orientation private. The gay community's hailed its scrapping as an historic day for equality.
