Casting a spotlight on the brutal world of drug trafficking in Asia's Golden Triangle.

These men appeared in a southern China court on Friday, accused of slaughtering 13 sailors along the Mekong River.

It marked the second day of their trial, which has captivated the country.

The court heard the six suspects hijacked Chinese boats in Myanmar, bound the crew members and used the vessels to move heroin into Thailand, state TV said.

When they were done, prosecutors allege, the victims - seen here - were shot and dumped overboard.

Their family members attended the trial - many struggling to hold back tears.

The Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Loas meet, is a remote area that has long been a hotspot for herion production.
