Former Soviet republics mourn the 27 million victims killed in the fight against Hitler's troops. On this day 70 years ago the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, unleashed the bloodiest conflict in the region's history, which became known as the "Great Patriotic War". On the anniversary we talk to British historian and author Dr Michael Jones, well-known for his books on World War Two. He told RT what motivated Hitler's decision to invade the Soviet union 70 years ago, and what helped the Soviet troops to win the war.
