STORY: In a wide ranging address to the U.N., U.S. President Barack Obama continued to call for an end to Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria. "And as we meet here, we again declare that the regime of Bashar al-Assad must come to an end so that the suffering of the Syrian people can stop, and a new dawn can begin."
Obama also called for an end to the violence that has erupted over a U.S. film insulting the Prophet Mohammad, underscoring the U.S. view on free speech. "Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views - even views that we disagree with," he said.
He also said that the U.S. would not tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran. "It risks triggering a nuclear-arms race in the region, and the unraveling of the non-proliferation treaty. That is why a coalition of countries is holding the Iranian government accountable. And that is why the United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon."
