The death toll in the unrecognised republic has now reached at least 2000, according to Russia's Ambassador to Georgia Vyacheslav Kovalenko. The Chief of Russian ground forces Igor Konashenkov claims Georgia's military action in Tskhinvali has resulted in the destruction of all hospitals, and many children have been killed.
