Marion Cotillard and Matt Damon receive career honors at the 22nd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York.

The 22nd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards took place in New York on Monday (November 26) night.

The event celebrated the best independent films of the year including "Beast of the Southern Wild," "Moonrise Kingdom," and "Your Sister's Sister."

Actress Emily Blunt says the awards show is more about the truthfulness of filmmaking rather than movie politics.

[Emily Blunt, Actress, "Your Sister's Sister"]:
"I think it's got real integrity and it's really about, it's really about what actors love about the work. I feel that, it's not political, it's really about why we all want to do this."

Actor Jared Leto, who was nominated for his documentary "Artifact," agreed.

[Jared Leto, Actor, "Artifact"]:
"I think independent films are there to challenge us. Usually they are films that are really deep labors of love and often times less traditional, less safe. So it's nice to have this events that celebrate taking risk."

Matt Damon said there is no real difference in the creative process between indie films and mainstream productions.

[Matt Damon, Actor, "Promised Land"]:
"The filmmaking and the problem solving, it's all really the same, it's just, you have kind of a bigger canvas to paint on when you do a really big movie."

There are rumors of an Oscar for Cotillard for her role in "Rust and Bone."

The French actress won an Academy Award in 2007 for "La Vie en Rose," but she's not getting ahead of herself.

[Marion Cotillard, Actress, "Rust and Bone"]:
"You have to enjoy those things when it's there, but thinking ahead, which I'm not - that's not me. So I'm just enjoying the present time right now."

Director Sacha Gervasi is now enjoying mainstream success with his first feature film "Hitchcock."

[Sacha Gervasi, Director, "Hitchcock"]:
"I mean to me it's like a miracle the movie got made so the fact that anything like that is being discussed is so beyond crazy to me."

Also honored were Director David O. Russell, and philanthropist and social entrepreneur Jeff Skoll.
