Amsterdam plan separate villages for troublesome tenants.
Many of us have encountered a not-so-nice neighbor at one point in our lives.
Amsterdam has recently announced a solution to that problem. The city will be introducing separate housing for problematic neighbors. Apparently serial offenders and anti-social residents will be housed in containers in an isolated area with ‘minimal services’ and constant police presence.
According to the capital city’s mayor, nearly 13,000 complaints of unlawful or anti-social behavior are reported each year and their intimidation causes fearful, law abiding tenants to move away rather than the troublemakers.
The new plan introduces a hotline for neighbors to report incidents along with the housing camps, called ‘scum villages’. The mayor bluntly stated “Repeat offenders should be forcibly removed from their neighborhood and sent to a village for scum. Put all the trash together.”
The city has saved up $1.3 million to put the plan in motion. Council officials want to combat bullying and they hope the new move will be a positive effort in what they refer to as an ‘upside down world’.
Of course, there are some fears that the new isolation villages will serve as a ghetto, housing a series of instigators all in one place.
