Clothes worn by Prince Charles and Princess Anne on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation on June 2 1953 were showcased at Buckingham Palace on Thursday (January 24) ahead of a major summer exhibition.

The exhibition, which marks the 60th anniversary of the coronation, follows a year of celebrations to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The Queen’s gown is the highlight of the exhibit.

Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne on February 6 1952, but it took some 18 months to organize the elaborate coronation. The exhibition itself will bring together the dresses, robes, and gowns made for the Queen and her immediate family for the first time since the historic event.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the personal, illustrated invitation sent to Prince Charles, who was four at the time. Princess Anne, at the age of two, did not attend the ceremony.

The Queen's coronation exhibition at Buckingham Palace will run from July 27 to September 29, 2013.
