London-born Iris Loveridge (1917-2000) studied at the Royal Academy of Music. She won numerous awards and prizes there, and was chosen by Sir Henry Wood to perform a concerto under his direction in the old Queen's Hall in London. Her broadcasting career began in 1936. She always championed music less often played, works by Bax, Medtner, Ireland, Rubbra, Jacob and many others.
