Massachusetts residents were digging out from under a record snowfall on Saturday (February 9) after a blizzard blasted through the Northeastern United States on Friday.
More than two feet of snow (60.9 cm) fell in the Boston area, with some spots getting as much as 30 inches (76.2 centimeters) and breaking the city's record snowfall of 27.6 inches (70.1cm) in 2003.
By Saturday morning, cars were buried under the snow, and snow plows struggled to clear the streets.
But it was a good day for teenagers looking to make a little money with their shovels.
"Man, it's crazy, this snow's all the way up to our waist," said one teenager who was getting paid to shovel snow in a Cambridge neighborhood.
Snow plow drivers began clearing the streets on Friday night (February 8), braving hazardous driving conditions.
"It's been rough, no doubt about it," a snow plow driver told Reuters. "We started this city at 5:00. It's been an all night thing."
Utility companies reported about 600,000 customers without power across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut as the wet, heavy snow brought down trees and power lines.
