The obsession of politicians and bureaucrats with red beacons on their car tops has become a regular traffic nuisance. But the Supreme Court on Wednesday (April 3) suggested to the government to end the 'Lal Batti' culture. The Supreme Court said it would decide whether a person other than high functionaries is entitled to use of beacons and sirens on their vehicles in view of their being misused and flaunted by people as status symbol.
