The United States says it is deploying a THAAD missile defense battery to defend its bases on the Pacific island of Guam, following threats from North Korea. The ground-based Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system will be in place in the coming weeks, the Pentagon has said, and along with two Aegis anti-missile destroyers sent to the western Pacific are aimed at intercepting any North Korean strike fagainst US or allied targets.
