Historic letters and photos to sell at auction

Letters and documents as forms of communication are fast disappearing.

And Profiles in History auction house is selling some historic examples composed by famous people like John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe and Thomas Jefferson.

President and owner, Joe Maddalena says John Lennon's scathing letter to Paul McCartney is a draft copy that Lennon retained.

SOUNDBITE: Joe Maddalena, President and owner of "Profiles in History", saying (English):

"It was at a time where the Beatles had broken up and John Lennon was defending Yoko Ono, basically saying to Paul, you know, you gotta stop this craziness and you gotta man up and basically, the Beatles were a great thing, but didn't we realize we were part of the movement and not the movement?"

The Lennon letter is expected to fetch between $10,000 and $15,000 USD.

Another note, this time handwritten in pencil by Marilyn Monroe to Lee Strasberg, could sell for as much as $30,000.
