A-listers hit the red carpet for The Great Gatsby premiere

STORY: The highly anticipated film "The Great Gatsby" had its world premiere in New York on Wednesday (May 1), kicking off what film director Baz Luhrmann hopes will be a summer of extravagant Gatsby-inspired parties and good music.

The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and has a soundtrack packed with some of today's biggest pop-stars produced by rapper Jay-Z.

The film marks the second time DiCaprio and Luhrmann have teamed up, the first being in 1996 for Romeo and Juliet.

"Baz is one of the most exciting nostalgic directors to work with. Once you're enveloped in his world of creativity you can't leave it," DiCaprio said of his director.

In an earlier interview DiCaprio said Luhrmann had a bit of Gatsby inside of him. On the red carpet Luhrmann admitted to the similarities.
